1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Alcreon Services Inc. collects, uses, discloses, protects, and retains personal information through Alcreon.com, the Alcreon newsletter, and related publication activities. Alcreon.com is an AI intelligence publication operated by Alcreon Services Inc., a corporation based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
This Policy is intended to align with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), as applicable. Additional rights may apply to readers outside Canada; see section 14.
Alcreon.com is the publication surface. AlcreonLabs.com is the services and commercial surface, operated by the same company but with a separate privacy policy reflecting the different data flows on each site. This Privacy Policy applies only to personal information collected through Alcreon.com, the Alcreon newsletter, and related publication activities. If you have interacted with AlcreonLabs.com, see the AlcreonLabs.com Privacy Policy for the practices that apply there. Standalone Alcreon Services Inc. products have their own product-specific privacy policies or addenda, linked from each product's pages when the product is live. Information collected through one site is not commingled with information from another except where expressly described in this Policy or required by law.
2. Controller and privacy contact
For personal information collected through Alcreon.com, Alcreon Services Inc. is the organization responsible for that information. Alcreon Services Inc. has designated a person in charge of the protection of personal information (Privacy Officer), responsible for the organization's compliance with applicable privacy law, including Alberta's PIPA, federal PIPEDA, and Quebec's Law 25. The Privacy Officer's name is available on written request.

3. Personal information we collect
We may collect the following categories of personal information, depending on how you interact with Alcreon.com:
- Contact information, such as name, email address, organization, role, and message content.
- Newsletter information, such as email address, subscription status, preferences, signup source, unsubscribe records, and engagement data.
- Publication interaction data, such as pages viewed, links clicked, article engagement, referral source, search terms, device data, browser data, IP address, approximate location, and timestamps.
- Account or paid subscription information, if launched, such as login details, subscription plan, billing status, invoices, payment processor identifiers, and support requests. We do not intentionally store full payment card numbers on our own systems.
- Communications, such as emails, correction requests, source tips, interview requests, comments, feedback, and other submissions.
- Security and abuse-prevention data, such as logs, device identifiers, spam indicators, fraud signals, blocked activity, and authentication data.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information through Alcreon.com. Do not send sensitive personal, financial, health, legal, confidential, or regulated information unless we specifically request it for a defined purpose.
4. How we collect personal information
We collect personal information directly from you when you subscribe, contact us, submit information, respond to a survey, purchase a paid product if offered, or otherwise interact with us. We also collect information automatically through cookies, analytics tools, server logs, email tracking technologies, and similar technologies. Some information may be provided by service providers, newsletter platforms, payment processors, analytics providers, or security tools.
5. Why we use personal information
We use personal information for the following purposes:
- to operate, maintain, secure, and improve Alcreon.com;
- to deliver newsletters, alerts, paid content, and publication updates;
- to respond to inquiries, corrections, source tips, support requests, and legal requests;
- to understand readership, traffic, referrals, content performance, and audience development;
- to administer accounts, subscriptions, payments, invoices, and access controls if paid products launch;
- to detect, prevent, and investigate spam, fraud, abuse, security incidents, and unauthorized access;
- to maintain editorial records, conflict checks, corrections, and publication integrity;
- to comply with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations; and
- to enforce our terms, protect rights, and manage disputes.
We collect, use, and disclose personal information only for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances and where permitted by applicable law.
6. Legal basis and consent
Depending on the context and applicable law, we rely on consent, legitimate business interests, contract performance, legal obligations, or other permitted bases for processing personal information.
You may withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Withdrawing consent may affect our ability to provide newsletters, accounts, paid content, or support.
7. Newsletters and commercial electronic messages (CASL)
If you subscribe to an Alcreon newsletter or ask to receive updates, we may send commercial electronic messages. In accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL):
- we will identify ourselves as the sender and include a valid mailing address and contact method in every commercial electronic message;
- our unsubscribe link will remain valid for at least 60 days after the message is sent; and
- we process unsubscribe requests promptly, and in any event no later than 10 business days from the request.
You can unsubscribe using the link in the message or by contacting privacy@alcreon.com. Transactional, legal, billing, security, account, and service-related messages may still be sent where permitted by law.
8. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for site functionality, analytics, preferences, security, and newsletter measurement. Details are provided in the Alcreon.com Cookie Policy. Where required by law, we will seek consent for non-essential cookies and provide a way to manage preferences.
9. AI-assisted workflows
We do not, ourselves, use Reader Personal Information or Confidential Information submitted through Alcreon.com to train AI models. Where we use third-party AI tools internally for research, editing, summarization, or other operational support, we make commercially reasonable efforts to select vendors and configurations that disable training on customer inputs where the vendor offers such a control. We cannot guarantee the internal operations of third-party AI providers beyond their published terms and the controls they make available.

10. When we disclose personal information
We may disclose personal information to:
- service providers that help operate the site, newsletter, analytics, email, hosting, security, payments, forms, customer support, and business systems;
- professional advisors, such as lawyers, accountants, auditors, insurers, and consultants;
- authorities, regulators, courts, or other parties when required or permitted by law;
- parties involved in a business transaction, such as financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets; and
- other parties with your consent or at your direction.
We do not sell personal information as the term is commonly understood. If we ever engage in advertising, retargeting, or data sharing that legally qualifies as a "sale" or "sharing" under applicable privacy law, we will update this Policy and provide required choices.
11. Service providers and international processing
Our service providers may process personal information in Canada, the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions. Those jurisdictions may have privacy laws different from your own, and information may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, regulators, or national security authorities as permitted by local law.
We use contractual, technical, organizational, and due diligence measures appropriate to the nature of the service provider and the information involved.
12. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information, the sensitivity of the information, legal requirements, accounting requirements, security needs, editorial integrity, and whether the information is needed for disputes or enforcement.
Newsletter subscription records may be retained while you remain subscribed and for a reasonable period after unsubscribe to maintain suppression records and compliance evidence.
13. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. No internet transmission, website, email system, or storage system is completely secure. You are responsible for safeguarding your own devices, accounts, passwords, and access credentials.
14. Your privacy rights
Under PIPA, PIPEDA, and other applicable Canadian privacy law, you may have rights to access, correct, or withdraw consent to the processing of your personal information. You may also have the right to complain to a privacy regulator (the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada).
To make a privacy request, contact privacy@alcreon.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will respond within 30 days unless a longer period is permitted by law. We may refuse, limit, or charge a reasonable fee for a request where permitted by law.
Additional rights for certain jurisdictions. Depending on your location, additional rights may apply.
- If you are a Quebec resident, you may have rights under Quebec's Law 25 (An Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector), including rights of access, correction, portability, withdrawal of consent, information about automated decision-making, and the right to request that we cease disseminating your personal information or de-index search results linking to it. You may also lodge a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or Swiss FADP, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
- If you are a California consumer, you may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct it, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" as those terms are defined under California law. We do not currently sell or share personal information as those terms are defined.

15. Children
Alcreon.com is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact privacy@alcreon.com.
16. Third-party links
Alcreon.com may link to third-party websites, platforms, podcasts, papers, newsletters, tools, and services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Policy.
17. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The revised Policy will be posted with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated through the site, email, or other reasonable means.
